We want to equip you for the best experience on your mission trip to Denver. Please utilize the following resource pages in preparation for your mission's week:

Your Mission Denver Team (MDT) will experience a street level missions trip that will bring about transformation change as you serve here in Denver. The experience will equip your youth group, deacons or church leadership with a vision for racial reconciliation, ministry to the poor and urban church planting in the heart of Denver's inner city. The week will be filled with spiritual formation, work projects in needy communities, Bible club ministry in low income housing communities, and a poverty simulation that will transform your view of the poor as you are made poor. We believe that this trip will alter the course of your life as you are exposed to urban ministry in the Mile High City.

Below we have a short overview of the details of your trip:

Community Development Projects

Many times our mercy ministry is viewed as handouts in forms of cash payment for rent, electric, or groceries, but does this help individuals in need. We need to begin to look at individuals on the basis of who they are and what they offer to the body of Christ and the community as a whole.  Many times these people have needs that they are unable to provide for and so we will be doing work projects to help those that are needy within the community.  We will take a serious look at showing dignity to the poor and enabling them to meet their own needs while showing them that their greatest need is the reconciling work of Christ.

Urban Ministry Training

We will be spending most of our mornings doing urban ministry training. These are discussion based teaching on God's heart for the poor.  Your quiet time and schedule will be used to enhance these times in our discussion.

Bible Clubs/Sports Clinics in Low Income Communities

Each MDT will facilitate a Bible Club Program or a Sports Clinic in a needy area of Denver. You will be given clear direction for both of these programs as we desire to see God breakdown the barriers within the community through these attractional events.

Poverty Simulation

Your week as an MDT will be full of unexpected surprises as you participate in a poverty simulation. The Scriptures are clear: God cares for the poor and marginalized, and has called us to be involved with them - to bring them the good news of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, much of our discipleship has ignored this important command. You will experience how it feels to live in a community surrounded by wealth, while struggling to feed, shelter and clothe yourself and your family. This unique poverty simulation is designed to help educate participants about the realities of our world in need, God's heart for the poor, and how we can better live out God's call for us to connect with the poor. The experience will stretch participants outside their "comfort zones" to face their own materialism, cultural values, and need to refocus on biblical mandates.

Our hope is that participants will leave this experience with "new eyes and ears" for the needs of the poor in their own community, our nation, and the world.

If you have a question that remains please feel free to contact us.

IMPORTANT: All participants in the group must be 14 years of age or older, and must have completed at least the 8th grade. The participants are never alone and always under supervision. Please refer to the FAQ for the poverty simulation in the resource section.

GROUPS WITH YOUNGER PARTICIPANTS: Alternatives to the poverty simulation will be offered for groups that have teens younger than 14 years of age or groups that want to opt out of the poverty simulation. It will be focus on exposure to poverty and less experience in homelessness. Please contact Mission Denver for more details.
